258 中翻英 (九) A table in the Wilderness 曠野的筵席 1/6/2023
You
prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
(Psalm 23:5 niv)
Our brother Paul made a great and noble statement to the Philippians. To these who, in material things, were almost his sole supporters, he dared to say: "I have all things and abound." (Philippians 4:8). Paul gave no hint of need, but took the position of a wealthy child of a wealthy Father, and the above statement is indeed a great and sublime statement. It was normal for an apostle to say to an unbeliever in distress: "I have neither gold nor silver" (Acts 3:6), but he should never say to those who are ready and eager to help him, the same words. It dishonors the Lord when a representative of God (His servant) to expose his personal needs that would provoke pity on the part of his hearers. If we have a living faith in God, we shall always make our boast in Him!
