Feb.  27.     The Standard of The God’s Word.   Bible  reading: Eph. 5:1-21  Key verses: Eph. 5:26-27    2

That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot wrinkle or any such thing, but that she would be and without blemish.

In his book Love for all Seasons, John Trent tells a story he heard Billy Grham relate at a crusade:

Graham recalled being on a cross country flight, when a man in the seat ahead of him began to create a disturbance.  This particular individual had been drinking heavily before he got on the plane and continued to drink as much they would serve him on the flight.

Not only was he getting more drunk, ut he was louder and more abusive to the flight attendants.  When they finally refused to serve him any more alcohol, his anger climaxed in a torrent language.

In total frustration, one of the flight attendants told him, “Sir, do you know that Billy Graham is sitting right behind you?”

The man whirled around and said, “Oh, Mr. Graham!  I’m so glad to meet you.  I went to one of your crusades, and it changed my life!”

It doesn’t take a telephoto lens to zoom in on that man’s problem.  Any inner “cleansing” that might have taken place at a crusade had been totally covered up the mud and dirt of shamed actions.

It doesn’t take much to be lulled into thinking that a particular sin isn’t so bad.  The conscience becomes so muddied that it is no longer a sensitive instrument in God’s hands.  You cannot rust your conscience.  You must evaluate your life on the standards of God’s Word.

Lord, help me always evaluate my life on the standards of Your Word.
