(317) “Gird your loins and serve me.”

(317)  “Gird your loins and serve me.”

"So when you have done everything you were commanded, you should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we did what was our duty.' " (Luke 17:10  NIV)

In this passage, the servant may be responsible for two important tasks: "ploughing the fields" and "shepherding the sheep." However, after he has done everything, the Lord Jesus reminds us that the servant must first serve his master and let his master eat and drink and be satisfied, and then he can eat and drink himself. How often, when we come back from working in the field (whether evangelizing unbelievers or tending to the needs of the church), it is easy to come back satisfied or appreciative of the many ministries we have accomplished. But the Lord answered us: “Gird your loins and serve me.” (Luke 17:8)      Of course, we ourselves must eat and drink, but we must satisfy the Lord first, and then it is our turn. We should also enjoy it, but we must first let the Lord's joy be satisfied before we can have our share. Let us always ask ourselves: In the work we do for the Lord, do we first satisfy ourselves or the Lord?
