在 “英语语法进深” 博客中提到时制 (tense)时, 实质上只有两种: 单纯过去时制和现在完成时制 (请参考 “英语语法进深” 第57, 58两讲).   在前面的约翰福音第一章里的18节圣经中前四节都是用的单纯过去时制的简单句.  深刻在我的心里. 强有力的说明主耶稣基督是先存 (pre-existence), 祂与父神上帝及圣灵为三位一体的上帝. 

这18节圣经被誉为整本新约的导引, 使信徒们能由主耶稣的降世看到上帝, 那就是 “话语” 变成肉身来到世上, 给世人带来恩典与真理.  这真理是絶得的.  上帝的慈爱和公义以及耶稣基督在十字架上为我们所作的救赎是永远绝对的真理.  不是你有你的, 我有我的, 也不是昨天的与今天的不同. 以自我为中心的虚构的道理是出自魔鬼骗人的思想.

14节所宣告的, “充充满满的有恩典, 有真理” ,  是上帝独特的儿子主耶稣为我们罪人带来的. 是绝对的真理, 对任何人都是真的.  人的堕落和悖逆使人与上帝隔离.  话语──主耶稣成了肉身來到世上, 其目的是要在十字架上为我们舍命赎罪, 使人能与上帝重新和好. 这是永远绝对的真理.  只能从耶稣基督而来. 有圣经作见证.

永恒的归属取决于怎样来响应这真理.  只是理智的降服是不够的──知识上的认定, 必须要要意志也降服──完全心志的顺服, 才能将自己委身于这唯一的, 独特的耶稣基督.  享用祂赐的新生命, 因为祂是生命的源头, 是我们生命的真光.

这首庄严、肃穆、稳重、宁静的圣诗歌词的作者是一位德国的女作家许兰格（Katharina von Schlegel, 1697-1765）. 她是信义会妇女传福音部的负责人. 开始载于她在1752年出版的诗歌集内. 约在一百年后, 由苏格兰的自由教会的一位热心传福音的卜薇（Jane L. Borthwick, 1813-1897）女士将它译成英文. 其曲调延至数十年后, 由被誉为  “芬兰国宝”的著名的作曲家西贝流士（Jean Sibelius, 1865-1957）所谱. 作为1899年他所作的交响乐「芬兰颂」（Finlandia）的主题. 该曲调与诗词配得合完美无间. 实是上帝感动受苦信徒发出与恶魔奋斗的心声.

每当我遇上试探时, 我都会拿起这首圣诗, 大声的唱. 它使我胜过世上的肉体的情欲, 眼目的情欲及今生的骄傲等的诱惑.  难怪这首圣诗使很多有基督信仰的人不致跌倒, 能奋不顾身的与魔鬼争战, 至终靠主得胜.

这是为主作见证的一段圣经.

第一天, 施洗约翰(加上"施洗"是用以与作者使徒约翰分别) 解说自己不是基督.
  他是旷野的声音, 为主耶稣作见证, 为祂铺平传悔改福音的艱辛的道路.

第二天, 施洗约翰见证耶稣是上帝的羔羊, 为罪人的救赎, 自己走上十字架舍生命, 流 

      寳血.  如羔羊代罪一样.

第三天, 施洗约翰在他两个门徒面前作见证. 再宣告主耶稣是上帝的羔羊.  两门立刻

      跟从主耶稣. 其中的一位安得烈立刻自动的去找他的亲哥彼得作见证说, “他看到

      弥赛亚(基督)” 请他哥哥 “去” 并且 “看”.  因而得救赎.

 第四天, 耶稣主的呼召腓力与拿但业.  拿但业不但理智的降服, 而且他的意志也降服    

       了, 说, “拉比, 你是上帝的儿子, 祢是以色列的王.” 将他自己完全的委身于祂.

圣法兰西斯生于1182年,  卒于1226年, 享年四十四歳.  他生于富有的布商之家, 死时却贫无立锥之地, 躺卧在最初他所修复的波提温克拉（Portiuncula）教堂的石 地上.  年轻时的他, 过着浪漫浮华的生活, 喜好吟咏创作诗歌; 廿六岁时, 领悟 “贫穷”的真谛, 自此放下一切身外之物, 关爱照料贫病, 与有同一信仰的友伴行乞传福音. 有一次在行走传扬和平福音时, 遇到一位贫病的痲疯患者, 他走过去拥抱他, 突然在他怀中的是主耶稣.  

朋友, 主耶稣永远与我们同在, 只要我们信靠祂的名, 就有祂的生命在我们里头.

有基督信仰的人处处都设法想帮助未信的人寻到福音的真光. 编辑者在写完 “英语语法” 之后, 圣灵启示要用祷告, 圣诗及圣经的中英对照来阐释 “主耶稣基督是上帝的儿子”, 供您们可以思想.

基督信仰的根源是认定主耶稣是以 “话语” (WORD) 变成肉身来到世上.  如圣经上告诉我们,  “祂就是这真理, 这道路, 这生命.” 有了祂, 我们就如得至宝.

我们在天上的上帝, 祢的管教是我脚前的灯, 路上的光.  求祢赐下恩典, 使我能把对祢真理的领悟, 明白清楚的写出来. 谢谢祢. 靠主耶稣基督的名求.  阿门.

A DIARY OF PRIVATE PRAYER                                 私祷日记

Eternal Father of my soul,                                    我心灵的永恒天父, 让我今早一醒来,

“私祷日记” 是1936年, 英国苏格兰爱丁堡神学院院长 约翰.贝利 (John Baillie) 所着.  编辑者参照1943年由中国成都金陵神学院学生集体翻译出版版本选译. 翻译是英语语法的应用. 编辑者自1963年翻译 “数式方法及电子计算器” 一书, 由徐氏基金会出版. 至今五十多年, 深感它的重要. 因为中国同胞要来美国学英语的机会实在不容易. 希望此译文对您们有益.

祈祷是基督信仰的人能力的源头.  信徒的谢饭祷告是必须的. 若上帝不赐下适时的雨水, 农人健康的身体及合适的气温. 你再有钱也买不到充饥的粮仓. 中国河南大饥荒, 死了几万人, 其中有钱的人不能例外.  所以, 有基督信仰的人说, “一饭一米都来自上帝.” 要谢饭, 要珍惜.  由上面的祷告, 可了解基督信仰的人的祷告不求名利, 而是与上帝对话. 从祷告中经历上帝, 是我们信徒的享受. 您们多次在 “英语语法”博客中, 看到我的祈祷. 求上帝赐我三个月健康 (那时编辑者已八十四岁, 有病在身), 若不是上帝的恩典, 我无法给各位完成您们所需要的.

该圣诗是一位来自英国女传教士和受恩（Margaret E. Barber）（1866年－1930年） 所作. 该歌对中国三十年代的基督信仰的传播, 影响很深远。在英国金弥耳牧师所着：中流砥柱－倪柝声传中, 有这么一段记载. 1921年，一艘中国军舰停泊在白牙潭，23岁的海军军官王载被和受恩住宅中的诗歌所吸引，上岸拜访。不久他辞去海军军官，专门传道, 与倪柝声同时成为中国
三十年代的基督信仰传播的砥柱。

编辑者自幼喜爱唱教会诗歌, 曾参加教会诗班, 享受赞美主耶稣基督的喜乐.  我英文的长进也得自唱英文圣诗极大的恩惠. 尤其是在发音方面帮助我很大. 您们不妨试试. (上面圣诗, 若能制成mp3, 以后附上.)
