在 “英语语法进深” 博客中提到时制 (tense)时, 实质上只有两种: 单纯过去时制和现在完成时制 (请参考 “英语语法进深” 第57, 58两讲). 在前面的约翰福音第一章里的18节圣经中前四节都是用的单纯过去时制的简单句. 深刻在我的心里. 强有力的说明主耶稣基督是先存
(pre-existence), 祂与父神上帝及圣灵为三位一体的上帝.
这18节圣经被誉为整本新约的导引, 使信徒们能由主耶稣的降世看到上帝, 那就是 “话语” 变成肉身来到世上, 给世人带来恩典与真理. 这真理是絶得的. 上帝的慈爱和公义以及耶稣基督在十字架上为我们所作的救赎是永远绝对的真理. 不是你有你的, 我有我的, 也不是昨天的与今天的不同. 以自我为中心的虚构的道理是出自魔鬼骗人的思想.
14节所宣告的, “充充满满的有恩典, 有真理” , 是上帝独特的儿子主耶稣为我们罪人带来的. 是绝对的真理, 对任何人都是真的. 人的堕落和悖逆使人与上帝隔离. 话语──主耶稣成了肉身來到世上, 其目的是要在十字架上为我们舍命赎罪, 使人能与上帝重新和好. 这是永远绝对的真理. 只能从耶稣基督而来. 有圣经作见证.
永恒的归属取决于怎样来响应这真理. 只是理智的降服是不够的──知识上的认定, 必须要要意志也降服──完全心志的顺服, 才能将自己委身于这唯一的, 独特的耶稣基督. 享用祂赐的新生命, 因为祂是生命的源头, 是我们生命的真光.

Borthwick, 1813-1897)女士将它译成英文. 其曲调延至数十年后, 由被誉为 “芬兰国宝”的著名的作曲家西贝流士(Jean
Sibelius, 1865-1957)所谱. 作为1899年他所作的交响乐「芬兰颂」(Finlandia)的主题. 该曲调与诗词配得合完美无间. 实是上帝感动受苦信徒发出与恶魔奋斗的心声.

圣法兰西斯生于1182年, 卒于1226年, 享年四十四歳. 他生于富有的布商之家, 死时却贫无立锥之地, 躺卧在最初他所修复的波提温克拉(Portiuncula)教堂的石 地上. 年轻时的他, 过着浪漫浮华的生活, 喜好吟咏创作诗歌; 廿六岁时, 领悟 “贫穷”的真谛, 自此放下一切身外之物, 关爱照料贫病, 与有同一信仰的友伴行乞传福音. 有一次在行走传扬和平福音时, 遇到一位贫病的痲疯患者, 他走过去拥抱他, 突然在他怀中的是主耶稣. 朋友, 主耶稣永远与我们同在, 只要我们信靠祂的名, 就有祂的生命在我们里头.
