106   常用介词单字(三)  at, on, in                                                                   11/04/2014

at, on, in 这三个介词单字指示地方上的应用非常广泛, 而多依习惯性使用法.  如, in bed, at home, at work, at school, at university 等的应用.  我国人是说在床上, 英语却用在床里(in bed) .  为什幺说, at home, 而不说in home, 这些都不是用规则能说明的.  只有随着英美人士的习惯用法去适应.

   例如:

            Miss Lee isn't up yet. She's still in bed.

            I'll be at work until 5.30, but I'll be at home all evening.

Mr. Wang is studying chemistry at university.

  [注]:  此处编辑者多用缩写(有底線的字), 为的是要使你们习惯.  我国人在听英语方面感到困难的原因之一, 是因为不习惯听缩短的字的发音, 所以听不懂.  请多大声朗诵, 使大脑习惯这音调.

at a party, at a concert这两个介词短语应用是说明这些事件在何处发生.  所以常用at 配撘这些賓语形成介词短语, 如at a party, at a conference, at a concert等.

例如 :

        Were there many people at the party?

        I saw Jack at a concert last Saturday.

in和at 同样可以用在指出建筑物. 要了解何时用at, 如上靣所述是说明在该建筑物有某事发生, 否则, 若单纯的指建筑物本身, 便要用in.

   例如:

            We went to a concert at the Royal Festival Hall.

            The meeting took place at the company's headquarters.

The film I want to see is showing at the City Hall.

The rooms in Steven's house are very small. (不用 'at Steven's house')

I enjoyed the film but it was very cold in the theater . (不说 'at the theater')

on 的用法多依习惯性.  为什幺要说on a bus, on her bicycle, 却用in a car, in a taxi. 

例如:

        The bus was very full. There were too many people on it.

George arrived in a taxi.

Mary passed me on her bicycle.

 [注]:  再以下例来阐明 at, in, on三个介词单字在习惯上使用的不同处. in the corner,表示在转角里; on the corner指在转角上; at the corner指确在转角处.

例如：

There is a chair in the corner of the room.

I met him at the corner of the street.

There is a public telephone on the corner of Charleston Street.

       试使用合适的介词单字,  in, at 或 on 填入各句空格内, 以完成之.
