我为什么是属主耶稣基督, 其理由是: The reason I belong to Jesus Christ is that He

圣诗背后的故事

耶稣恩友(What a Friend We in Jesus)” 的作者史克来芬(Joseph Scriven 1819-1886),生于爱尔兰的County Down1842年毕业于都柏林三一神学院。大学毕业后,就在结婚前夕,他的未婚妻不幸坠马掉进河里。史克来芬十分悲伤,于1846年离开伤心地,移居加拿大的安大略(Ontario)1855年,悲惨的遭遇又一次临到了他。当他与相爱的女孩以利莎罗准备结婚时,以利莎罗却被疾病夺去了生命。

人生之中,经历如此悲剧,情何以堪!走出痛苦之后,他写下了这首著名的《耶稣恩友》。1857年,他把诗歌寄给了病中的母亲,母亲大受感动,得到安慰.

一天,史克来芬病了,照顾他的友人看到这首诗歌,十分惊讶,问他怎样写出这么感人的诗歌。他说:「是神与我一起同工完成的。」 「耶稣是我亲爱朋友」,是整首诗歌的中心,亦是作者在经历痛苦中,所得惟一最宝贵的经验和秘诀。史克来芬深切地感到:「多少平安屡屡失去,多少痛苦白白受」,「或是试炼或是引诱,或有烦恼压心头」,「软弱劳苦多愁,挂虑重担压心头」,「亲或离我友或弃我」,「切莫灰心切莫丧胆」,定要「来到主恩座前求」,因为「耶稣深知我们软弱」,又「担当我罪与忧愁」!。因此,无论何时何地,我们都不应忘记:「主仍是我避难处所,在主怀中必蒙护佑,与主同在永无忧」。
这也是鼓励无数基督徒战胜苦难的秘诀,正如圣经所说:「我们既然有一位已经升入高天尊荣的大祭司,就是神的儿子耶稣……我们只管坦然无惧的,来到施恩的宝座前,为要得怜恤,蒙恩惠作随时的帮助。」(希伯来书 四章14-16节)。

1875年,孙盖(Ira D Sankey) 请作曲家康佛士 (Charles C Converse,1832-1918),为《耶稣恩友》谱了曲,在F大调中,只用FBbC7三个主要和弦,就完成了简洁、好听的四部和声,这也是传统圣诗的特点。

今天,在史克来芬住过的地方,岂立着四座纪念碑。在墓地Rice Lake旁,一座13呎高的纪念碑上,就刻着这首诗歌的歌词。1920524日,在建成仪式上,安大略首相赞扬史克来芬,一生为主而活,像主耶稣服事人,成为后人的榜样。
