下面短文是罗斯福总统感恩的心.

President Roosevelt in the United States is a devout Christian.

He always has a heart of gratitude. As his family was stolen, his friend wrote him a letter to comfort him. He replied:  “My dear friend, thank you for your letter in comforting me. I am fine now and thank God.

The thief stole some things without harming my life.

The thief stole Only some matters, not all;

Finally, upon God’s blessing, he is the thief,  not me.”

他常怀感恩之心。当家被偷时，他的朋友写信来安慰他。罗斯福总统回信说, “亲爱的朋友，谢谢你来信安慰我，我很好，感谢上帝：

President Abraham Lincoln in the United States is a devout Christian.

In 1863, he announced Thanksgiving for the national holiday. During the two hundred years, once a year thanksgiving activities spread from a small place to go. This is a festival full of thanks and love.  Americans gather for a special prayer, grateful to praise God's benevolence and grace in the past year.

英语短语动词(phrasal verbs)

在英语句子中, 常常见到动词后面跟着这些, in, out, on, off, up, down, away, back, round, through, about, along, over, forward, by 等单词.  例如,  fill in; break down; put out; get on; take off; run away 等作成的短语.  这类短语称为短语动词 ( phrasal verbs).  它们在口语及篇章句子中常常见到, 诸如:  My car breaks down ( 意思是: 我车拋锚了.  ‘My car stops working.’); Fill in this form, please! (意思是: 請填这表格. ‘They give me a form and ask me to fill it in.’); I drop out the English class. (意思是: 我不修英文这一课.  ‘I stop taking part in studying English’).  The weather clears up. (意思是: 天气好转了.  ‘It becomes brighter-for weather.’);  He moved in last Saturday. (意思是: 他上星六搬进来了.  ‘He started living in the house last Saturday.’)  由单句中可见,  是第二个单词给这短语动词特别的意思.

get on  :   上车  (意思是:  My car was full.  You couldn't get on.

我的车坐满了,  你不能上车.)

drive off:  开走了  (意思是:  John got into the car and drove off.

                                               约翰坐进车后, 开走了.)

come back:  回来  (意思是:  Mary is leaving tomorrow and coming back on Monday.

                                                   玛莉明天要走, 星期一回来.)

turn round:  回过头来 (意思是: When I touched her shoulder, she turned round.

                                                      当我拍她肩膀时, 她回过头来.)

breaking down :  打破 (意思是:   The police got into the house by breaking down the door.  警察破门而入这房屋。)

在所有的感恩的聖詩中，我最愛這首，因為它摸著我的心.

聖詩是瑞典人史篤慕（August Ludvig Storm, 1862-1914）所寫。 原文共有四節，每節都以“感謝神”開始，作者凡事謝恩。 聖詩由裴史莊（Carl Ernest Backstrom）譯成英文，他刪除了第三節。史篤慕在救世軍的聚會中得救，後來成為瑞典救世軍領導人之一。 這首詩是為救世軍刊物而作。他在三十七歲時，背部受重傷，以至終生殘疾，不時疼痛不已，但他繼續在救世軍聚會中講道，並為刊物寫作。 在他去世前一年，他另寫了一首感恩的詩歌，感謝神的眷顧與保守。

譜曲者郝德門(John A. Hultman, 1891)也是瑞典人，童年時隨父母移民美國。 他有優美的歌聲，六十多年中，他在瑞典與美國之間，舉行福音演唱，因為個性爽朗、歌聲歡愉，所以廣受歡迎，他被稱為「陽光歌者」。他一共作了五百多首歌。 這位陽光歌者，八十一歲時，在加州一教會演唱福音聖詩時，被主接去。 能在事奉時迎見主，真是美好無比！

我们慈爱的天父, 求怜悯我, 若没有祢的同在和祝福, 这一生肯定活在情欲和傲慢的罪中.  求祢赐怜悯,  赦免我的罪, 使我顺服祢, 照祢的话去过日子.  更求祢不要丢弃我, 求祢使用我作祢爱的见证,  使祢神圣的慈爱和怜悯, 得以达到与我接近的人的生命中去.  愿一切荣耀赞美归于祢.  奉主耶稣宝贵的圣名祈求.  阿们.

1977年来到美国, 蒙上帝的怜悯已经存活了四十年.  要感恩见证主耶稣基督赐给我们得以存活的恩典, 并且丰盛.  所以把存在心中早要做的事──说明达尔文(Darwin) 为什幺要以他所信仰的“无神”为基础, 而提出没有上帝的假说 “演化论”,  硬要给“创造万物的上帝──主耶稣基督”不留一点空间.  这是有关信心的问题（A Matter of Faith）.  演化论的假设需要物证,  而编辑者是要向世人见证我的基督信仰, 主耶稣基督仍然活着( God is alive) .  因为我自己就是祂亲自拯救的人,  是祂创造的.

"演化论”假设地球有45亿年老,  它真有这幺年老吗?

地球真有这幺老吗? (注: 编辑者在犹他州州立大学读“统计学”, 因为要论证水文学洪水流量的大小的假设, 必须借重水文站所得的必须充分的数据, 以统计方法来分析, 确认所命定的假设是正确的, 才能作防洪工程大埧埧高的设计的根据.)  演化论亦是要依据统计来佐证其假设, 也必须取得足够必须的样本 (necessary and sufficient samples) 来证明"演化论”的假设,  不知道达尔文要证明他的假设,  是否取得足够的化石样本,  能够佐证地球真有45亿年老.

上帝以 “各从其类” 创造人及万物.

上帝以 “各从其类” 创造人及万物.  至今科学家仍未找到演化过程的中间生物.  世界有历史记载总有五千年了, 为什幺仍然看不见一只猿猴变成人的中间过程的生物呢?  该问题非我所知, 暂且等待时间来印证.  但狗经过各种处理是可以演化成不同形, 性, 大小的狗, 但是絶对不会演化成猫或老鼠的. 这点我可肯定.  因在圣经创世記一章廿一节上帝说, “水要多多滋生有生命的物；要有雀鸟飞在地面以上，天空之中。上帝就造出大鱼和水中所滋生各样有生命的动物, “各从其类” ；又造出各样飞鸟，“各从其类”。上帝看着是好的。”  狗不会演化成猫或老鼠是根据创造万物的上帝的智能的设计的原则──各从其类.  编辑者深信上帝的儿子──耶稣基督拯救我的生命, 信靠祂是我生命的创造者, 信祂走上十字架, 受死, 埋葬, 第三天复活, 升天是为赎我的罪.  你可能会说我愚笨, 但我认为是谦卑. 我要一生跟随主耶稣, 得永生的盼望. 希望访友们也有同样的盼望. 
  

 “Matter” 一词在英语篇章或口语中都常常使用, 其意义往往被我国学习英语的青年所忽略.  今以例句加以说明.

英语语法在学习英语过程中是必须的.

Before 2000 years, the Lord Jesus Christ was conceived by Mary from the Holy Spirit. He was born by the virgin Mary.  He was growing in poverty and over humble.  He did not travel far; only once as in His childhood,  He fled from the King Herod, He left the border to Egypt.

在2000多年前主耶稣基督因马利亚从圣灵怀了孕，祂由童贞女马利亚所生.   耶稣生长于贫穷和微贱的环境.  祂没有远行过, 只有一次离开国境,  还是在孩童时期祂逃难到埃及.

He has never had a fortune, and His relatives are of mediocre, not trained or educated.

耶稣从未拥有过财势, 祂的亲朋也都平凡, 没有受过训练或正是教育.

But when He was born, He had made the king horrified, and as He was a child, He had made the teachers awkwardly. When He was grown up , He had ruled nature, walking on the water, and was able to calm down the waves.

但耶稣在诞生时, 就曾使国王惊骇;  在孩童时,  祂曾使教师们窘惑;  长成后, 耶稣曾管辖自然,  祂在水上步行;  且能喝令风浪平息.

He could heal the sickness of  persons without medicine and free.

耶稣不用医药而能治愈人的病, 又从不收费.

He never wrote a book, but all the libraries in the world did not have a book about his writings.

He is not the king on the earth, but for two thousand years, one day in a week, countless people gather and worship and praise Him.

耶稣不是地上的君王,  但两千年来,  每星期有一天,  无数的群众聚集,  敬拜颂赞祂.

The mighty scrambling political men of  Greece and Rome, they have gone forever;  many scientists, philosophers, and theologians were also gone with the passage of time.  But only Jesus Christ,  this name,  last forever.

希腊, 罗马那些不可一世的政治人物,  叱咤风云,  但都成为过去;  多少科学家, 哲学家, 神学家,  也都随时间而消逝.   只有 “耶稣”这名字越久越彰.

From that time the mobs of nailing Him on the cross to this generation,  it was crossing for more than two thousand years,  He is alive.   His enemies could not kill Him, and the grave was empty.

从钉耶稣十字架的那群暴民到我们这一代,  已跨越两千余年,  但祂仍然活着.  祂的敌人不能杀死祂,  埋葬祂的坟墓空空的.

Nowadays, Christ Jesus is in the glory of heaven with God,  blessed with the angels,  worship by the saints, and the devil afraid of Him.  Jesus is the risen Christ, our personal Savior, and He is God.

如今, 祂在天上荣耀至高之处与上帝同在,  被天使称颂,  圣徒崇拜,  魔鬼恐惧.  祂就是复活的基督,  是我们个人的救主,  祂是上帝.

The Bible says,  “In the beginning was the Word”;  He is the true light;  He is the bread of life: and the Word became flesh into the world, and made His dwelling among us, full of grace and truth; we have seen His glory, the glory of God, and the only begotten Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made the Father known.

圣经上说, 耶稣是泰初就有的道;  是世上的真光;  是生命的粮.  祂道成肉身来到世上,  住在我们中间,  充充满满有恩典有真理;  祂让我们看见的荣光正是上帝的荣光,  只有这位父怀里的独生子将天父表明出来.

Jesus Christ is "the way, the truth, and the life";   His name is the only Name in heaven and earth that is God’s gift,  we can be saved by the holy Name; no one comes to the Father except through Me.

耶稣基督是  “道路,  真理,  生命”;  祂的名是天上地下唯一所赐,  可以靠着得救的圣名;  若不藉着祂,  没有人能到天父哪里去.

英文的介系词 (prepositions) 有很多字，在许多场合，用或不用，用这个 或用那个，都是很困扰学习英语的朋友, 尤其是我国学习英文的年轻人, 主要原因是习惯用法, 非記憶不可.
